The next Networking Forum is the Annual General Meeting on Friday 17 November.

Speak up - Make your voice heard

Recently the Greeks have been used by our politicians as a political football, described as "model citizens" and set up against the other "less desirable groups" adding to the dangerous polarising debate and inter racial hatred that is taking place in mainstream Australia.

We at the Food for Thought Network are quite concerned about the underlying issues of racism behind the controversy of citizenship, refugees, asylum seekers, and the backward steps towards assimilation, monoculturalism and monolingualism.

  • Who represents our voice in mainstream Australia?
  • Have we lost our collective voice?
  • Are people too busy with their own lives/careers/multiple responsibilities?
  • Who should represent us?
  • The ethnic media is an obvious avenue. Have they been effective?
  • How can the ethnic media, in this instance the Greek Australian media have an influential voice in promoting a different viewpoint and combat racism and assimilation?

If you are interested in any of the above issues please come along to the last FFTN networking forum for 2006. This is a free event .

The AGM will take place at the conclusion of this discussion.

Details are as follows:

Date: Friday 17November
Time: 6.30 for a 7.00 pm start
V enue: Level 3, Greek Orthodox Community Building, Corner of Lonsdale & Russell Street

About the Networking Forums

The multiple layers of complexity that women are facing today in balancing work and family become at times overwhelming. The need to have support from other women who are facing similar challenges is paramount in succeeding in today’s demanding world.

The majority of second and third generation Greek Australian women are educated and working in mainstream organisations. They have very little to do with Greek community organisations. We therefore have a rich source of talent unexplored by the Greek community.

The Food For Thought network is a unique, progressive not for profit network that welcomes diversity within its participants.

It was established to support and empower women in being successful in their chosen sphere, whether it be work, family or a combination of both.

The FFT Network runs quarterly networking forums pertaining to women’s issues. They are held on Friday nights at a restaurant (separate room) over food and wine and are similar to the ancient Greek symposiums.

These forums are known for the quality speakers, the stimulating discussion that follows, the diverse audience and the opportunity for networking and for meeting new people from all professions and walks of life.

Venues used have included: Kri Kri Restaurant , Elements Café, Yiannis Tavern, Vasilis and Giannis, Konstantine’s and the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria Building.
